Brittin & Caleb | Red Rock Open Space Engagement Photos
colorado springs, co
Guys. MY LITTLE SISTER IS GETTING MARRIED!!! I cannot even handle it. Their wedding is coming up in early September alongside a gorgeous lake in Michigan, and I’m just over the moon for the celebration — and, honestly, for their marriage in general. Caleb is everything we could have hoped for in a husband for Britt, and they make such a beautiful, joyful pair.
A few weeks ago, we headed to Red Rock Open Space in Colorado Springs to capture their engagement photos — and it also happened to be Britt's birthday. What better way to celebrate than with a little golden-hour magic and some fun couple photos?
Why Red Rock Open Space Is Perfect for Engagement Photos
If you’re looking for some stellar Colorado Springs engagement photo locations, Red Rock Open Space has it all. The iconic red rocks give such a bold (but still natural) backdrop, but this particular area is way less crowded than Garden of the Gods. There's some lovely fences to lean on, rocks to climb, fields to wander through, and if you're willing to hike a little longer you can also get to a pretty great overlook of town.
The best part? It’s super accessible. Everything is relatively close to one of the few parking lots, which is super convenient (especially if you chose to look extra fly and wear heels for your engagement shoot ;) )
Bonus: the late afternoon into golden hour here is magical. Truly. The sunshine lights up the grasses and hits the rocks in a particularly beautiful way. Britt and Caleb at this point are used to being in front of my camera, but even if you’re a little nervous about having photos taken, this spot does a lot of the heavy lifting for you.

epic shots & intimate moments
I personally love getting a good mix of both "epic shots" (think huge mountain in the background or stunning sunset, etc.) and close up, intimate, snuggly shots during engagement shoots. I think you need both for something as monumental as an engagement: you want to capture both the vastness and the beauty of the new season you are entering into together, but you also want to capture the tenderness that you share as a couple.
Red Rock Open Space is a great setting for capturing both, because you can get the Colorado mountains behind you, or you can start cuddling in the grass =) You know, whatever floats your boat in the moment.
Why Engagement Photos Matter
I love engagement sessions because they capture a moment in time that passes so quickly but is full of excitement, love, and anticipation. This is the season where two people are planning a life together, dreaming about their future, and just enjoying being “just engaged.”
For Britt and Caleb, this session was more than photos — it was a memory. It was a way to uniquely capture their relationship as it is today before the wedding planning craziness begins to set in (because let's be real, it usually comes a lot faster than most of realize).
A Love Story in the Red Rocks
Being able to photograph my sister and her soon-to-be-husband at Red Rock Open Space was so special. This spot is iconic, accessible, and perfectly suited for engagement photos in Colorado Springs. It lets couples explore and just be themselves — all while surrounded by beauty that can elevate every shot even more.
Britt and Caleb, I love you both so much, and I am so thrilled to celebrate your wedding in September. I cannot wait to see what this next chapter brings for you — and I’m so grateful I got to capture this magical moment in your story.
